S&W mdl. 14 single action only

Looking at this 90% gun described as rare single action only. I am not a collector. Can this gun be made into a double action? Easily?
Is it a collector that should not be changed? Price is right as is for a shooter.

Leave it as is. Worth a lot more to a collector. Buy it and shoot it..very accurate. Or just find a DA version. I have a pre 14 K38 I picked up for $225. Lots of fun to shoot and more accurate than I am.

I think you could swap in the correct parts to make it normal. Any time you can get a collector for a shoot price is a good deal.

Bought one about '76 with all the guys loading stuff for 38spl.
Don't know about the rarity for them, but all it takes is a hammer, maybe a trigger to put it in DA mode [;)]
If you want a new hammer, let me know.
The black bar in the front of the trigger in pic is what makes a single action when it is out of hammer [;)]

S&W used to make a single action 'kit' to replace the double action parts (hammer and trigger). you could change it 'back' but why?

Yes you can convert it and keep the original parts to change it back with no modifications. I don't know if there is a real difference in value or if the gun will letter to being single action only. You might check on the Smith & Wesson Forum. 90% condition is generally less than the collectors are looking for but still a great gun and great to shoot. If you like double action shooting just get the correct parts and have at it.

Just by way of additional information, a true SA hammer lacks a cutout for the DA sear and that is easily visible when you cock the hammer & look into the frame. IIRC no retaining pin hole either, but that's not visible unless the sideplate is removed. Of course the catch is that a SA hammer can easily be fitted to the revolver. Absent a letter from S & W I'd be suspicious of any Model 14 offered as a SA only original.
