NEF Improved Cyl.....rifled??

I recently came across a NEF Pardner single shot that is stamped "improved cylinder" but the barrel is rifled. It's a shorter barrel. Maybe 22" with rifle sights and laminated stock. Can someone better explain this to me? Was it rifled by someone at a later date? Come from factory like this ?

Most likely whoever was stamping the barrels that day, had a brain fart. Either that or it was stamped on a Friday afternoon or Monday morning.

probably made like that from factory.
Much easier for them to use a IC barrel and rifle it than to stop a production line to
use an un-honed barrel to make a rifled one.
