I was at a gun show with a freind and he purchased two Colts, one was marked Colt Commando. The 1911 Commando is on a Commander frame and is stainless steel. I found one post on this 1911 pistol on another forum and some did not think Colt ever make this model to one saying that only two houndred fifty were built.

don't know if this will help any but i know alot of gunmanufacturers, especialy custom makers, giver their pieces fancy, cool sounding names like nighthawk custom's Talon IV or springfield armory's defender.

the pice could also have been custom engraved by a person that thaught "colt Commando" sounded cool

Colt made (2) different revolvers with the Commando name. First was during WW II, that was a Pakerized version of the Official Police for security guards. The second was for a short time in the mid 80's, when they made a parkerized "economy" version of the Detective Special. I can't find anything on a 1911, called the Commando though?

It couldn't have been marked "commander" rather than "commando"....??? There was an AR styled rifle called the "commando".....
