Now the Remington and Savage are more accurate from the box, but have push feed actions which are not as reliable in feeding as the Mauser based action(Kimber, Winchester, Ruger) which is controlled feed.
If you are hunting, all are plenty accurate.
Now if you want to go synthetic the options get larger. S&W makes a great rifle in their I Bolt, Marlin has their new XL7, and Stevens makes a good rifle in their 200.

You could also look into the Remington Model 7/700 lineup. They start in the high $500's and go to nearly $900 for the standard fancier grade model. They also make a good rifle in the Model 798, which is a Mauser type action. The action itself is made in Yugoslavia though. The fit and finish on these laminated stocks leaves a little to be desired. The first ones I saw come out weren't great. Lately, they seem to be better.
If you want a wood rifle and aren't bent on buying an American made rifle, the best recommendation I have is look at a Tikka T3. I've been nothing but impressed with their accuracy since I've seen them hit the market.
"whats the best bang for the buck?"
I'm aware that questions worded like this generally indicate that you're interest is in the bargain range of rifles. There is nothing wrong with the Savage, Winchester, Remington, etc. since they'll all perform just fine. Your choice of .308 Win. is perfect for almost everything that you might want to hunt and components are readily available for reloading.
Sometimes it's reasonable to look at alternatives to bargains and standard answers. Sometimes it's reasonable to stand back and look for rifles that are higher quality and might take a little longer to own. Wood stocks can be the deciding factor in some of these instances so looking for a maker that specializes in wood and quality could be worth looking into. As examples:
