Greetings, I am looking for a Gunsmithing school to attend. Can anyone help guide me to the best way of picking which school to get the knowledge I need to be a good Gunsmith? I want to do the regular repairs, but also would like to create accurate firearms and antique restorations. I sent off for some information on home study schools so I can keep working at my present job. These schools are Thomson Education Direct and Professional Career Development Institute, heard anything about these schools? I may be able to go to a school with a physical location if the quality of education is going to make up for sacrifice since I am not loaded with extra cash. Any feed back will be greatly appreciated! [:D]

I was thinking about getting into gunsmithing and was wondering if anyone had any advice on a good school. I am in Oklahoma but I am not against an online training site. I am not doing this for a means of income, just enjoy learning new things. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

In North Carolina community colleges teach classes. That would be a good place to start. Good luck

Strictly my opinion for what it's worth............Probably best that you stay away from any "online" courses for gunsmithing. Too much "hands on" kind of trade that requires good machining skills. Good "machining skills" takes years to perfect. Anybody can run a lathe or mill.......but to consistently hold .001 OR less tolerance takes skill and lots of "hands on" practice. [:D]

The correspondent courses are not worth the time or the cost. Note that two of the schools listed above are operated to make a profit whether you get anything out of the programs or not.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.

    Best.
