Now that 5 MM ammo is now back in production, I have heard that Marlin, Savage and CZ are considering producing a rifle to shoot it. Anyone know it there is any truth to this?

Yes it is a little bigger than the 22 Mag...20 cal 30 grain bullet at 2350fps...if they loaded to original Remington 5MM Remington Magnum pressures, they should be able to push a 30 gr bullet at 2500-2600 fps. Great little round...better than 22 Mag or 17 HMR in my book.

whats the purpose of them? doesnt wind have a huge effect on such a small/light round?

Basically it is a varmint round. Yes wind will affect the smaller cartridges more than a larger cartridge over a given range.

Who is making ammunition? I had a Remington years ago, but then I couldn't find ammo for it and traded it off.

So what can it do that a 22 can't? Just like the 17hmr. I cannot see spending the extra money for that caliber when I can do what I want to do with a 22 for half the price. If I need more than the 22 I go to the 223. I can reload that round cheaper than I can buy 17 hmr and the 223 will do way more than the 17.

I dunno, I like my remington 700 in .17 remington. I was going to have it re barreled to .223, but I just went ahead and bought a 700 compact tactical in .223 and kept the 17.

No, it is NOT bigger than the 22 Magnum. It is Basically the 22 WMR necked down to 20 caliber. The case might be just a tad bit longer. It does however retain superrior hitting energy down range. As previously stated a 30 grain bullet at 2350, soounds a bit optimistic, but will outdo a 30 grain 22 cal at 2200, or a 34 grain at 2100.

5mm &.22 mag 30 gr. are so close you wouldn't notice any difference. Velocity would depend on barrel length.
