hello all.
a buddy of mine recently received this shotgun and i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on it's age and possible worth. thank you for your time.

it's supposedly a pre ww2 and of german making. but we honestly have no idea where to start on this thing.]
Welcome to the Gunbroker Forums!
Your photographs are a good start but we really could use some overalls and some details of the complete shotgun.
The ones you have supplied are little contrasty so I copied them and tried to adjust some of it out in order to see the marks better. The two marks I boxed in red are not legible to my eye so if you can get a better shot of the water table and the bottom of the barrels, it would help.
Other than the observation that it's a 12 ga.:
'Crown over U' is Proved in Assembled form.
'Crown over W' is a reference to Choked barrels.
I do not see anything that represents Nitro or Smokeless proof.
More and less contrasy photographs will be a big help.
