have an old ruger blackhawk 357 3 screw in a wood presentation case. how or is it possible to put the new velvet back in the case? the person i purchased this from 20 or so years ago took it out because he said it got oilly because he always oiled up the gun. the gun has probably only been shot 80 or 90 times so it shows a little mark from the cylinder going round. is there any way to fix this without rebluing it? or best to leave it alone. according to rugers web site it would be made in 1965.

As a Ruger collector I say leave it alone if the only blemish is a cylinder ring started. Any other blue wear on the gun. If you have it refinished you will kill any collector value and reduce the value by around 50%. The revolver would not have been shipped in the wooden case as the old model blackhawks were only shipped in cardboard boxes. The early Super Blackhawk 44mag was shipped in a mahogany box but were not lined with velvet except on the top. You could get some velvet and cut to fit then glue along the edges to replace the old velvet.
