Does any one know why a right handed 870 shotgun would be (factory?) equipped with a backwards operating safety. This shotgun is pristine, mfg in 79 I think, but the safety operates the wrong way for a right handed shooter and even has the bigger knurled button on the left. Thanks!

picked up a 870 today with a magnum receiver and a 34 inch barrel that reads 2&3/4 duck/goose on it. its a factory barrel. just wondering how rare that is (the barrel, that is). never seen one before?

Friend has an 870 that he believes is a first year production gun that is in excellent shape and is thinking about having me list it here. Is there much of an 870 following, or do you think it will sell for $100 or so as a full choke plain barrel gun without much interest?
I did a search and there are only 8263 items that I can look thru.

You would likely suffer failure to eject problems. Don't know if there are any other differences in the receiver or timing, but the ejection port is only cut for 3" length hulls.

OK, it will work for the first bang of the gun. However that longer 3.5" shell willl not be able to eject through the port made only for a 3" shell, in addition that bolt may not have the streangth to hold the charge of the shell causeing a really big boom, so i would not try it.

If it wasn't made for it, don't use it, unless your just going to shoot 3 inch shells in it only...

Yes, I think you can put the barrel on but you can only shoot 3in. not the 3.5 like the barrel says. I know you used to beable to put a 3in barrel on a gun made for 3in the only thing was you were stuck with whatever the reciever says.

I wouldnt, The 870 3 1/2 action has a larger ejection port, And if I am not mistaken it has been beefed up some, The breech bolt has been lengthened also.
