    Mike, It is called a 3 screw. Ruger changed to 2 screws and I can't remember when but it made that pistol very desirable. I haven't checked prices but they go pretty high. Check here, {elsewhere} and maybe {elsewhere}. I've killed more stuff with mine than any piece I own. Keep it. Ken

    I have one made in 1954 and i love mine. I still use mine from time to time i wished mine had the 22 magnum option. I think its a keeper.

    It's a keeper for sure. The old three screw 22s with both cylinders are getting rare. Fun and functional. My boys run ammo through mine like it was 10/22 with a drum. I paid 225.00 for mine 15 years ago.

    Pretty nice looking Single-Six. The shipper should be stamped RSSMX and the box should be RSSM. The box should also have the serial number of the gun in white china marker on the opposite end of the model number. The X was only on the shipper.

    RSS = Ruger Single-Six
    M = 6-1/2"
    X = convertible

    The owners instructions and parts list should be dated 3/1/67 in the lower right front corner, unless it was an early shipped gun, then it would be dated "March 1, 1965". The white "fitted extra cylinder" box suggests it to be a late shipped gun. The "white box" was used from 68-71 with few exceptions. The earliest known "white box" was shipped with serial number 484098, so, never say never, it could be right.

    The cylinders should have the last 3 digits of the serial number scribed on the bushing end of the cylinder, showing they were fitted to that gun.

    Here is how you tell the different Old Model cylinders.

    OM22cylinders.jpg

    value:

    RSSMX = about 129,840 produced. Collector grade 95-98% $390 +or-
    RSSM marked box in very good to excellent shape, around $110.
    RSSMX marked shipper, add another $75 maybe more.
    65-67 Instruction & parts list $20.
    Complete package, all original marked to the gun, add some more $$.

    These are all collector grade prices, what a collector would pay if they needed or more important, wanted that gun.

    You can call Ruger (603-863-3300) ask for records. Give them your S/N and they will tell you the model and variation, also when it shipped. Ask them for a letter on the gun, they will mail it to you FREE, a nice addition to the package.

    JMHO.

    From the pictures I can not tell if it is a flat gate or not, but the gun has been used. At the cylinder has been indexed quite abit as evidenced by the ring around the outside of the cylinder by the cylinder latch.

    That said, that still looks like a nice specimen that is complete with box and manual, of the Old Model Single Six. That should go for $450.00 or a little more.

    The serial number is about 420,000 to high to be a flat gate. No picture of the loading gate is needed.

    Ruger Single-Six flatgates ended in March of 1957 at serial number 60XXX, some 10 years before this Single-Six roundgate was produced.
