Hi all I was given a winchester 270 wcf super grade serial number 122026 when my father in-law died lasst year. I want to learn to shoot it but I am worried that it might not take modern ammo. Am I ok to shoot it? Any idea what I should have it insured for?

Unless there is some major problem with the gun, it will be just fine with "modern" ammo. Insured? Hard to tell without photos, but $500 would be about minimum.

Ammo today is about the same as when your rifle was made that said if you have never shot or inspected a rifle then go to your local gun shop. NOT A BIG BOX STORE THAT SELLS FIREARMS & SKATE BOARDS. and ask them to look at it and suggest some light recoiling ammo . Don' be surprised if they offer you big $$ DO not SELL They may offer $500.00 but they may also offer $2000.00 it all depends on condition. This is an AMERICAN CLASSIC rifle [^][:p]you are very lucky Your wife does not have any brothers. .

The bolt and receiver should bring close to $500. A complete rifle in original finish and configuration can bump $2,000.00. Expert appraisal advice is available here if you provide some good photographs.
