I have recently acquired a S&W 44 mag. It is a 5 screw model with serial number 166XXX. Any help would be appreciated.

    Sir,

Your serial # appears to be incompete. For a 5 screw pre 29, you should have an S prefix serial #.

For a ser. #S 166xxx the manufacture date would be about 3rd quarter of 1956 per 'Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson'

It does have an S prefix. I forgot to mention that.

I would say that its no less than 90% probably more like 95% condition with a 6 1/2 barrel. thats measuring the barrel from cylinder to the tip. Any idea on value anyone?
