Taurus 92 vs Berretta 92

From what I can tell these pistols are virtually identical from the literature I've read. First, would this be a fair assessment? Second would either one of these be a good reliable 9mm and can shoot reloads(no polygonal rifling)?

The Taurus is made on Beretta's old pattern. The difference being, the safety, Beretta is on the slide now. Both have "cut" rifled barrels, so can handle lead bullets.

I have had both guns and they shoot great. The Taurus grip was a bit bigger for me so I traded it and now only have the Beretta. You might also consider that most Taurus guns don't hold their value like a Beretta. You can usually find a good deal on a used Taurus.

I have a 92 and and have reloaded at least 5,000 rds and ran them
through the pistol with no problems. I started loading on the low
side and worked up the load so it would cycle with not jams. Then
increased the loads until I had good groups.
    Hope this helps,

The Taurus is based on the older 92 frame, and I believe is actually built on older Beretta machinery (or used to be).

So both guns are highly similar, with the biggest practical difference, as already mentioned being the safety. The Taurus safety is frame-mounted, allowing for "cocked and locked" carry. The Beretta safety is slide-mounted, acting as a decocker.

Both guns are highly reliable, and both use standard cut rifling which would be safe with all-lead bullets. (Though use of all lead bullets does tend to lead up barrels at typical 9mm velocities).

Also, as mentioned, the Beretta has the better "name" so would have more resale value.

I have the Taurus 92AF. It has ate many thousands of rounds with poor care. I spent the price difference on ammo. This gun goes BANG every time, all the time. I must admit accuracy is not too bad either. Taurus has a lifetime warranty, not sure about Beretta.

I really like my beretta 92, It is reliable as long as it is clean and is accurate.. The taurus 92 is the same basic design, so unless you get a lemon it should be a fine pistol.

The Taurus has a better-designed safety for a DA pistol, IMNSHO. In the middle position, the normal carry position, the gun will fire single or double action. If the hammer is cocked, you can flip the safety up for cocked & locked condition. Or you can push it down and it safely decocks the hammer. Nice to have a choice.

I have had both, and kept the Taurus. I say Taurus unless the Beretta 92 is an FS and made in Italy as those are nicer than Beretta USA guns.

Taurus is okay to shoot / plink with. But....Beretta is carry worthy.[;)]

Ask a GI. Most likely he will not agree, especially if he remembers the 92F series that had slides bust and fly into the operators face.
