Ruger 22/45 Opinions

I was thinking about picking up one of these little pistols and thought I would see what others thought of them. From what I've gathered they are good shooters, other than taking them apart for cleaning which is a pain the first few times. I would really like to hear what owners have to say about them. I'm looking at this one, http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=10107&return=Y#
Thanks.

I know a few people that have had feeding problems with them. I don't understand why, unless it is the different angle of the grip.

I have one as expected of a Ruger product it works everytime I pul the trigger. Excellent value, good handling feel. My only complaint is I have a large hand and the circumfirence of the grip is small for me. Same for the 1911, I just shift the grip to have a good hold and placement of my trigger finger. Buy one.

I had the MKII, which worked fine, but the grip didn't feel great. I sold that and got the MKIII. Much better grips, and works great too.

In any of the Ruger semi pistols you must tip the first round of the clip up at an angle to avoid any jam problems .. I have this gun and it shoots great ..

Thanks guys, that's what I wanted to hear. Think I'll start looking around for the best deal on one. Thanks for the tip about the first round in the clip. I have a bolt action 22, a M44, that's the same way.

    Edit:
beantownshootah, that's exactly what I want it for. A cheap, knock-around pistol that has the feel of an 1911. Not planning on any thing serious, just a cheap range gun. Keep the tips heading my way. Thanks.

    I've shot these a bit.

They are reliable and accurate. Plus they are tough as nails.

Like *ANY* .22 auto, some of them may have problems reliably feeding or cycling certain ammo types. This will be dependent on not only the type of ammo, but also on the individual gun.

For what they are. . .a low cost plinker/trainer .22 designed to replicate the grip of a 1911. . .they are quite good, and IMO probably the best of the low-end .22 autos.

If you want a knock-around .22 auto or a trainer, you won't be disappointed with this one.

I would add that while the stock trigger on these guns is fine, they're really not good enough out of the box for serious bullseye type competition.

Although upgrading to a match-quality trigger is certainly possible, usually those sorts of upgrades aren't cost-effective (eg you won't get all your money back if you sell the gun).

So if you do want to use this gun for formal bullseye type competition, then its probably more cost-effective to look at a different gun (eg a used High Standard) instead, even if the better gun costs a little more up front.

Have had a few come into the shop. (22/45) The pins in the frame will move out of place causing problems. Just glue the ends in, and it solves that problem.

Love mine. There was a break-in period with it to where I had some problems. After 200-300 rounds it slicked right up. Have one of mine scoped right now.

I have 2 from 1997 with 5 1/2 bull barrels. Installed speed strip kits and pachmayr #1 slip- ons on both. Hammer both weekly, great shooters. Though I never had to tip the top round in the magazine? Mine run fine with all my mags on a diet of the 36 gr federal 550 packs and get better consistancy with the 40 gr federal lightnings.
