IMPORTAT EDIT ON Help for my 94, which...

once had a side mounted scope on it.

I don't think the short barreled .30-30 needs a scope.

The rifle has 3 drilled and tapped holes in the left side of the receiver. Without those holes, it would be a pretty rifle - nice buttstock, sharp rifling and a GREAT trigger.

Anyone know what I'd need to do to fix the holes, and return the weapon to what it oughtta look like?? Oh, yeah - it also has some fool's driver's license number engraved on the RIGHT side of the receiver !

By the way, would someone please tell me when this weapon was manufactured ?? S/N 3864902?

Thank you !

Merry Christmas !!

Doug

    Hello Mr. Wilson,

It is good to see you on here, and a Merry Christmas to you too.

For the restoration work, the only work I have seen that I can vouch for would be Doug Turnbull in Bloomfield, NY. He is somewhat local to me, and his work is second to none. If you google Doug Turnbull restorations, you should be able to find his website. His work is not inexpensive though, to be forwarned. If you had a cody letter for that gun, you would get it back as it left the factory, aside from his hidden stamp...yes he marks his work so it is not passed off as a rare original.

Bert H will be along to add to this, I am sure, and give you the information you desire on DOM.

    Best wishes,
    Tim

The 3 drilled holes. Are they one large on toward the front of the receiver and two smaller holes toward the rear of the receiver? Or are they 3 drilled holes in addition to these 3? If yes to the first question they are factory holes and you can put plug screws back in the rear holes and the proper screw back in the front hole.

    Hello Doug,

Your Model 94 is not worth the time nor the effort to fix. It is a post-63 production gun, and was made during the darkest hours of Winchester's production era. If it has unfilled drilled & tapped holes, simply find a proper sized filler screw to plug the holes.

Thank you guys for saving me a BUNCH of money.

Sure like the rifle, though !!

It seems to be good quality, even if it is crappy quality !?

    Merry Christmas !!

Your 94 is still a good shooter-just not a collector item.
Find a good professional refinisher like Ford's and pay them to refinish it. If the cost is too high, just enjoy the gun for what it is.

That is what I will do - flush screws and shooter.

    Thank you.

    Doug.
