I have available to me to purchase a Winchester 1907 semi-automatic rifle in 351 WSL chambering. This rifle seems to be all correct, and is in 95 percent or better condition. It SEEMS to be correct, but it has the fancy checkered stock and forearm on it. Did they make it with this option? The stock has the correct butt plate, and a grip cap with white line spacer. Was this stock/fore arm available on just the 1910 in 401? The asking price is $525.00, and there are very minimal handling marks on it.

The book The History of Winchester Firearms 1866-1980. Shows the model 1907 Winchester being available in a Special Sporting Rifle, Fancy Walnut, Checkered. From personal observation I would say these are very scarce. The white line spacer sounds very aftermarket. I would not buy the gun without getting expert evaluation. I mean by showing very clear closeup photos or hands-on examination.

    Hello Tim,

Yes, Winchester did make a small number of deluxe Model 1907s with fancy checkered stocks, but they are relatively rare. That said, I suspect that the rifle you are looking at has been restocked, as I have never run into one with a white grip-cap spacer. Of the nearly 59,000 that were made between November of 1906 through December 1957, most were sold to Police Departments, Prisons, and Allied military.

    Bert,

Is there any documentation availble at Cody to verify this rifle? I closely examined the rifle, and it is all original metal, and the 525.00 seems not to be far off...or is it?

Hope all went well for you last week.

Cody only has the records for serial numbers 1 - 9,999. Can you post pictures of the rifle?

$525 is a really cheap price for an authentic deluxe Model 1907, but a bit high for one that is not. The Models 1905, 1907, and 1910 have a limited collector following to start with, and non-original guns are just expensive shooters.

As for last week... No, it did not go well. The ESWL treatment did not work, and I am still packing the *$%#@ damn stone. It is too big to pass, so the next step is invasive surgery to have it removed. I have been popping pain pills continuously for the better part of last two straight weeks now. Hopefully I can get scheduled to have it removed early this coming week. It has been somewhat difficult to write & type with full lucidity lately.
