Not sure of value?

I have found a used rifle I like, and it shoots better than 1" groups at 100 yards. It is a 70 ish Remington 700 25-06 SS with Detachable/ Mag in a Wood Monte Carlo stock 24" barrel. It is a very nice clean gun. I haven't seen a rifle in this configuration before. The owner tells me it is very uncommon. My question is, he wants 900.00 dollars for it. Which to me seems like a lot.I can't buy one like it new.Just a blued 700 CDL hinged floor plate is 899.00 here in Canada. Is it a bad idea to pay the 900.00 for this rifle? Is the rifle configuration not uncommon. Or maybe I should just suck it up and pay a couple hundred dollars extra. It does come with an extra magazine. I just don't like getting taken. Did I mention I like the rifle.

Getting taken/paying to much is somewhat relative. If you want it, buy nit. I personally would not pay that much for it.

Not that it matters, but it was not made in the 70s with a detach mag,SS ,,the 700 series anyway. So its a much later model,,check out he new prices out on a similar one and go from there. Sounds HIGH to me...nambu

Im not at the shop so I cant look up the model/config.. if its a standard 700 SS in that round its a $300-400 gun at best.. You mention it shoots sub 1 inch groups at 100 yards ? How do you know that when you dont mention that it has a scope on it ? Pretty much boils down to how bad you want it like anything else ..

The 700 is a very good rifle. Shoots even better. But for that price and used at that. IT better have won heck of a nice scope on it. Like Leoupold or something equal . $400-500 without scope .If scoped add 75% of the value of the scope. this is only my opinion .

I will get the ser# and see what year it is. I know the stock is not original. Remington does not offer this rifle with a detached magazine today. An aftermarket refit for the magazine is available in blue only. The rifle has a scope on it now, but it is a cheap scope.
    Thanx for your thoughts guys.
