I have a German Luger, dated 1936, with the numbers 73 with three small marks on the barrel and also says Gesichert. It is in a case dated EWX 1944 with a Nazi insignia and additionally P.38. Could you estimate a value?

It would be best if you would post quality photos of the pistol. Potentially a 1936 dated Luger could be a very valuable to a collector.

The holster you have was originally made for the German P 38 pistol in 1944. EWX was the manufacturers code, ( Franz and Vogels, Holster Manufacturing ) located in Cologne Germany.

Gesichert means "safe" (OK. it means SECURE, but you know what I mean!)

And when there is a round in the chamber, the extractor will have "Gerladen" (loaded) stamped on it's side (unless it was made for the "english" market than it will say "Loaded" on the extractor).

BTW, the Luger is a P-08, which is a different pistol than a P-38.
The larger parts, frame, barrel, side plate etc should have a 4 digit number IE 1234 (the serial #) on them, and the smaller parts should have a 2 digit number IE 34 (last 2 of the SN) on them, this includes the original magazines.

Thekla1, Welcome to the forum. First off, the holster with the Luger(P-08) is for a P-38. The Luger will go in the holster but it is not the correct one and will best be sold separately. The 1936 dated Luger should have blue on the major parts with a straw colored finish on the trigger, safety lever, take down bolt and ejector. Maybe on another small part or two. Original finish, unmodified Lugers are all collector's items. Yours may be in that category or it may be parts gun. The grips should be wooden. The value could be $300 to upwards of $2,000.00 depending on several factors that can only be determined from a hands on inspection or from several close up, sharp and bright photos.
