I spoke of a winchester lever action carbine that was to have been built in 1924. I spoke to my father and he said that the S.N. was 9428XX. any info on approx date of manufacture would be appriciated. thank you for your help

According to the Blue Book, your date is in the ballpark.

I have stated this at least 100 times in the past... the Blue Book is NOT an accurate source of information as it applies DOMs for all of the older (collectable) Winchester Models.

Serial number 9428xx was manufactured in the early part of the year 1922 versus 1924.

I know that there are some of you out there that place very little (if any) importance on exact date of manufacture, but for each one of you in that category, there are at least as many people out there who do want to know the DOM as precisely as possible. For instance, there are people who only collect Winchesters manufactured in their year of birth. There are also those people who can gleen and pin down family history from accurate data. Then, there are others who like myself, use the information for statistical analysis (research).

Actually, it was only 96 times, Bert. However, MY Blue Book clearly states on page 437, paragraph 6: "For accurate Winchester Model 1894/94 dates of manufacture, we haven't got a freaking clue. Please ask Bert and NOT George Maddis". [;)]

    Happy New Year, Bert. [:D]

Hmmm... I might have mis-counted, but somehow I really doubt it[}:)]. I apparently do not have the same Edition of the Blue Book that you do[:0]... where can I get that copy?

I can see how that might happen, as one being used to having to count to only 1 bang, before reloading your rifle[:D][:D][:D][:0]
