Ithaca poly choke conversion

I have an Ithaca 37 with a solid ribbed polychoked barrel. I would like to have it removed and choke tubes installed or go with a straight modified or improved cylinder. Is this possible?

Without seeing photos of the shotgun and checking the length of the barrel just short of the poly choke it would be very difficult to make a determination?

Best thing for you to do would be to take it in to a gunsmith who does a lot of shotgun work. Run it by him to see if it's possible to rework the barrel as you wish? If the mount for the poly choke is silver soldiered on? It might leave the barrel to short, if it had to be cut.

Why would anyone want to carry around a pocket full of choke tubes and a wrench when the poly-choke gives you 9 chokes at your finger tips???? I guess I'm missing something.

You need to know the barrel wall thickness at the end of the barrel just before the Polychoke.
There is a thin wall series of screw-in chokes having finer, shallower threads in case your wall thickness is marginal. Otherwise you'll have to cut the barrel back to thicker material.
I have a 20Gauge 1100 vent rib that had to be shortened to thicker material just to get thin walled chokes fitted. It shoots up a blue streak.
There is also some market for the Polychoke if you go through with it.
It sounds like a useful widget for a short barreled defense gun.
