Has anyone ever heard of this gun? It's a Browning bolt action rifle, manufactured in Belgium. I found some Browning Norma .308 ammo on the auction side but cannot find any info on the rifle.

    MOONED,

Pictures would really be the solution here.

Browning had a contract with FN to produce some rifles using an M98 as the framework for a big game rifle. The name I remember is the Belgian FN Browning Safari. This could be what you're asking about.

The .308 Norma Magnum is the same cartridge as our .30-338 wildcat.

Post some pictures so we can be sure.

    Best.

1st If I was you I would get into reloading. There is not that much .308 Norma or 30-338 avaiable. What is as you may have already found will cost you.

I looked for a few year to find manufactures of .308 Norma. Never did find many. But as nononsesne said post a picture. It may help.

Also it is a round more used in Europe or was.

I have two so far one built on a 1903 frame and one on a 1917 frame. Had one a long time ago on a K98 that I just loved but that one was stolen.

Thanks for the info. I am out of town and cannot upload pictures at this time. Neither do I have my Blue Book with me. I just happened to run into this item and wass trying to find out any info I could. I do agree that the ammo would be hard to find.

My main curiosity is a value on a 90% or better condition piece liek this as well as how may were manufactured. Any additional help is appreciated.

In the early 1960's prior to Winchester's announcement of the 300 Win Mag there were many Springfields and Enfields in .30 cal that people had re-chambered to 308 Norma Mag. It is a great round and I wish Winchester had brought it out. There were several FN's built as 308 Norma Mags under the Browning name as well as other Mauser 98's under various commercial names...One was the Fagen Acra built with the Santa Barbara action...and Herter's may have had them made calling them J9's or XK3's. The only commercial ammo I am aware of was made by Norma and may still be. Most 30-06 bolt actions can be converted to the 308 Norma Mag without a lot of trouble.

Norma still makes ammunition for the 308 Norma. It is expensive but Norma makes really good ammunition.

The 308 Norma has almost the identical balistics of the 300 Win mag, if memory serves the 300 Win has slightly more powder capacity, and ammo is MUCH cheaper if you don't reload.
    For what it's worth.
