I have a bolt action rifle with lettering: Fabrique dearms, LaCaruna, chambered 7.92. Can anyone tell me the manufacturer of this rifle and would it best be rechambered to 30.06 or .308. any suggestions on barrel.

Can't rechamber, you'd have to rebarrel.

Can You post a Photo of your Rifle....? I'm not sure, but assume that You have a Spanish Made Mauser and if so and its complete and original.. I'd leave it as is...

Lacaruna is/was the name of a Spanish military arsenal. Your rifle probably was manufactured there during the 40's or 50's. It's was originally chambered for the 8 mm Mauser, military rifle cartridge. As the 8mm Mauser bullet is approximately .015 larger in diameter then either the .308 or 30-06, its not feasible to rechamber the rifle for either cartridge.

If it is in 8mm, which has been suggested- and I agree (probably a Spanish model 43) then assuming a good bore, 8mm is as good as 06 or .308. In fact, in terms of terminal ballistics probably a shade better then the standard loading of either... if loaded to maximum potential. Both loaded ammo and handloading components are readily available.

Rebarreling would be an option, in which case I'd recommend the .308 as the 06 might be a tad long with some loads for the mag. Another option is the 8mm/06 wildcat, which just reams the chamber out to 30-06 length but in 8mm, though again the length issue, particularly with long heavy bullets, would still be an issue.

Adams & Bennett, buy them from MidWay USA, they are very reasonably priced, and can be bought chambered, turned to contour and blued, ready to have a qualified gun smith install.
    For what it's worth.

Walther Lothar barrels are my favs.

the Spanish Mausers has some heat treat issues if I recall correctly. Not the best for installing a high pressure cartridge like the 308

Just so you know by the time you buy a good barrel and pay to have in installed, you could just buy a nice Howa 1500 or Stevens 200 that will shot tighter and probably for less money.
