AR-15 Pre-Ban lower??

how do you tell if you are buying a pre or post ban lower ar-15 receiver? is one more $$ than the other? why does it make a difference?

    If by "AR-15" you mean "Colt AR-15", then the answer is that all AR-15 lowers (& complete rifles) are pre-ban. The term "AR-15" is copywrited by Colt, & cannot be used by any other manufacturer.

    However, if you really mean "AR-type", then you will have to check with the manufacturer or see if someone has posted a serial number list on the Internet.

    It makes a difference if you live in one of the handful of states that enacted so-called assault rifle bans that did NOT expire when the federal so-called assault rifle ban did. As to $, I guess it depends on where you live, & what you think the law says.

    Type "AR-15 serial numbers" in your search. When it comes up, look at [pdf]Brownells BenchTalk-Ar-15 Serial Numbers Pre-And Post Ban. A list will come up.
