Best 45acp in WWII .45

I recently purchased a WWII Remington Rand .45ACP pistol.

What would be the safest ammo to use in it for self defense?

I was thinking just using military style 230gr ball ammo since that is what the gun was made to use.

Your thoughts please,

Since about a jillion rounds of 45 hardball have been shot over the past century it would seem to be a good choice!

aside from hardball ammo, there is powerball by Corbon which is specially made JHP ammo made to fire and feed well in these old non ramped guns.

While a great performer in a combat zone, 45 Hardball is ricochet prone in most other defense scenarios. You might want to consider a Jacketed Hollow point. You will have to test them to see if they feed in your 1911A1 reliably.

I've only shot ball ammo thru my Remington-Rand but I don't use it as a CCW or for home defense.

I think we need to know a lot more about what type environment you live in, & if you are talking about a "carry gun" or a "house gun". And, what you mean by "safe"; safe for you, or safe for the child in the next apartment who might get hit by a round through the drywall?

In an urban area, pre-fragmented ammo like Mag Safe or Glaser might be a good choice. Federal air marshals used .38 wadcutters for many years. There are a lot of things to consider.

Like Weh said Corbon makes their PowRball ammo that is shaped and feeds like a FMJ but performs like HP ammo.
