Single Action Revolver

I have a Colt SAA 3rd Generation in 45 Colt and would like to add something "almost as nice" for casual shooting, walking through the woods in lousy weather. USFA isn't around anymore, I know Uberti makes all sorts of versions under different brand names. What is currently, for lack of a better description, the "2nd best" SAA pistol out there. I'm not interested in transfer bar types, just the old fashioned 4 clicks.

Uberti IS the 2nd best after Colt for non transfer bar single actions. Cimarron buys Uberti & Pietta guns and then slicks them up. You can get the Cimarron guns in stainless steel now for walking in bad weather. I've fired them and they are nice.

Another option is find a pre transfer bar Ruger Blackhawk.....makes one heck of a trail gun and will handle loads that would make a Colt/replica cry.

I had an Interarms Dragoon when I was a kid - almost forgot about that. The screw hole holding the ejector rod bushing to the barrel was drilled all the way through - every time I fired gas from the barrel pinwheeled the entire housing off to my right. Anyway, the Dragoon is a bit larger than what I'd like, IIRC it's considerably bigger than a Colt SAA type.

I had a Virginian Dragoon many years ago, it was a really nice well built SAA!

Was considering, but I want case hardened frame. I see AWA still floating around used in the $700.00 range, an option.

If $700 is the limit. I'd buy a new Uberti. Basically Uberti makes cowboy guns for everybody (Navy Arms, Cimmaron, Taylor and so on). As for them "tricking them out" I think they just stamp their import info and they call it good. I mean tricked out.

Uberti will do all that and being a Spaghetti you won't feel bad if you get forgetty and neglectful.

Love to get me a Texas Longhorn (is that right?) they were the ones who made the loading gate on the left side a few decades ago.

I would shoot the Colt. Maybe from a nice protective holster for bad weather. What are you saving it for?

I agree. It's funny how everyone wants a real Colt but doesn't want to shoot 'em! [;)]
