Hi All, i just purchased a Whitney Co. Rolling Block rifle in 22 Cal.
Its in rough condition,Needs a lot of TLC.

My goal is to clean it up and and get in a safe shootable condition.
Also i would like to determine the exact model,
Top tang reads Whitney Arms Co. New Haven CT. USA

and year of manufacture. Serial number 71231
It has a 24'' octagon barrel, overall lenght about 41''
I tried attaching pictures with no luck. All info is appreciated.

Anyone know of a place to find parts?
Thanks in advance ,
Tony

    Sounds like a Whitney-Remington Type II, No 2 Sporting Rifle, Flayderman 5J 070; 1881-1888.

    Parts? Oh, dear. What parts?

Make a junk e-mail address first then sign up at photobucket. Next follow the sticky instructions. http://forums.GunBroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=259294

Parts? I think you will making them. These days with a 3D printer prototypes are easier. I would try and find someone that has a similar rifle and get measurements.

Redman's 22 barrel liner is 27" so you could have a new bore.

Added Repairs to wood aren't that hard to do, making them invisible is an art. I would consider pouring a pewter nose cap.

    Hi Guys,
thanks for comments and the info, the rifle is basically complete. The butt stock has a small piece near the reciever missing, the forend is missing the front ebony piece.

all metal is intact and just needs a good cleaning to remove the gunk.
The barrel rifling is rough, but looks shootable.

I will setup photobucket account and try and post pictures.

Being NRA Mechanically Inept, I would be right down to the gunsmith to have the stock repaired. If yours had the ebony Schnabel, it will be a job to make. A simpler tip shape might do. Chips and chunks, not so bad.

A friend is bidding on a Remington No 4 that is going to need a reline, Redman did one for me, but there are others.

Supposedly was a direct copy of the Remington R.B.. Made after Remingtons patents expired. If so, perhaps parts from the Remington small frame sporting rifles. Might be compatible? Even though they aren't common either. More were made than the Whitney.
