Mislabeled cartridge Box

Recently I purchased three boxes of 270 Win (Remington Sirocco 130 gr)at one of the Marts. At the range they would not chamber. Closer inspection showed the cartridges are 30/06 rather than 270 Win as the box indicated. The boxes did not appear opened or tampered with. I suggest anyone check the cartridges to be sure they are right. It could ruin a hunting trip if not caught early. This is the first time in over 40 years of shooting this happened to me. Good luck.

I work at a "Mart" (kinda'), and my guess is devious (wish they were broken) little hands. Little wastes of spematazoan byproduct get dropped offat the "mall" whenever the parents need to hit the bars, or whatever, and then pick them up from my store at close...it's great being daycare. Anyway, they tend not to steal the ammo, as they are always on camera at least, but will do things like switch the ammo in the boxes, or get their extremely young sibblings to pick it up and throw it under a display, or some such other reprehensible thing...never ceases to amaze me. I now have a dailey FF tape review (that sometimes takes an hour even if you find nothing) and weekly come to Jesus meeting with the local juvenile LEO. Wrists have been slapped, and feelings briused, but nothing will come of it with the sad laws we face in terms of prosecuting anyone. I'm frustrated, but feel worse for the Cop's...unable to do crap.

Excellent advice to ALWAYS check the headstamps and appearance of your commercial ammo whether it be a hunt of alifetime or a day at the dump whacking rats...better safe than sorry. Also keep in mind that human nature IS what it IS...sometimes people suck.

This ammo was stored in a locked glass display case at least when I bought it. I appreciate the problems with young unsupervised children. Sometimes they have real situations that are not of their making. When teaching Sunday school some parents who were separated/divorced would have one parent drop the child off and the other would pick up the child after class. While this avoided the face to face encounter between the parents, the child was clearly troubled by the arrangement and either acted out or withdrew into a protective shell. I am sure the mall serves the same function. I am going to always check the headstamps particularly when going into a remote area. I think I will also cycle the hunting ammo to make sure it is appropriate for the particular firearm. Thanks for the mart insight.

I went to the store (K Mart) and there were 7 boxes of 270 Win (Remington 130 gr Sirocco) in the locked case. Upon examination all boxes had 30/06 cartridges. Looks like a factory screw upon. The clerk said they were returning the ammo to the supplier.

That or some clerk at your local K-mart got 8 boxes of premum 270 ammo for the price of basic 30-06 ammo (minus his employee discount of course)

Might be a good idea for the ammo manufacturers to put a factory seal on the boxes just like most do for bullets????

Have some defective Remington copper solid 12ga slugs here at home. Had 2 boxes (5 rounds per box) with 1 round each that had a petal missing from the sabot and the slug sticking slightly past the end of the case. I remember shooting a funny sounding round last year and wonder. I need to let Remington know. From the post on this thread maybe they need to look into their quality control policies and practices.

I would notify remington so they can look into it. I'll do the same, the defect in mine are potentialy dangerous as the loads aren't seated correctly and the projectile is not aligned. Chambering the wrong ammo is always dangerous in your case they didn't chamber, thank goodness.
