Old model Ruger Bearcat hammer removal?

I have what is supposedly a NIB old model Bearcat. The gun does appear new and unfired, but for some reason a previous owner "jeweled" the hammer -- little machined circles all over the sides -- and I'd like to either replace the hammer or have the "jewels" machined off. Is there any trick to removing and replacing the hammer? I've worked on lots of Colts and others without problems, but not Rugers, and I don't want any surprises in working on this Bearcat. Advice appreciated.

Fit will change a lot removing the jeweling. No special tricks but I haven't seen one in a long time. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufacturers/Ruger-33474/Revolvers-40405/OldModelBearcat-38340.htm
Thanks for your reply. You're right, and I'd have to be careful not to remove too much. I know Ruger has shims to fine-tune hammers on Single Six and others but not sure if available for the Bearcat. If so, it would make up for lost metal. Ideally, I'll find a clean hammer to replace with.
