Hi experts,

I finally located a Springfield Armory GI micro compact (the parkerized one -PW9801LP) for a reasonable price after searching for a couple weeks. Man these things are scarce and the one I got was the last one the dealer had. Why was it so hard to find?

I called SA and they told me it was manufactured 08/07 and that was the latest run of these. They guy I spoke to said he was surprised I found one this late, that they sell like hotcakes.

It will get here Saturday. Any advice as to how to break it in correctly or any other tips or pointers will be greatly appreciated.

I've owned some .45s (still do) but never one with a 3" barrel. Just have to see what the fuss is all about.

It might replace my Kahr PM9 as my EDC. Not sure about that yet, obviously.

There are a few variations of this pistol. This one is the bare bones, GI - parkerized. PW9801LP.

But I have read some people say their GI parkerized came with a lowered and flared port, others said they got lowered but not flared and still othesr yet say the port is a standard GI.

Is this confusion due to people don't know which version they have?

I did my own informal poll on the quality of these pistols by checking what was said about them in various forums including this one.

Positive comments ran about 7-1 saying this was a decent quality pistol. It's probably better than that as I have found satisfied gun owners usually don't post and the people with problem firearms do.

I'd like to hear from people who actually own one of these or have owned one. But I'll take pointers from those who have owned any 3" .45s.

Thanks,

Mike

I owned a mil spec Springfield Micro with 3" bbl - bought it brand new. I've owned other Springfield 1911s and been satisfied.

But, the Micro I bought came from the factory with a defective extractor. From the very first round it would not yank an empty. And I mean the very 1st shot. Not only was the tension off but the cut and angle was off. It is obvious that no one checked the gun before it left the factory. I replaced the extractor & everything worked fine after that, but I eventually sold it - already have the little Detonics, Para P10 & such.
