AR15 multi position stock

OK. I'm new to the AR world and have aquired my first AR. It has a collapsible, 4 position stock on it. It came with another stock piece that looks like it would slip on if you could get the moving piece of the stock (that is now on the rifle) off. The reason I want to change them out is, the extra one looks like it is better quality and also has a cheek weld pad on it.
I hope this makes sense and you guys can help me out.

Extend the stock to the last position, then pull down on the lever that you'd normally push up to adjust the stock length. You can then slide it off the receiver extension. You'll also have to pull down on this lever to install.
Get a Rock river Arms 6 position stock, it's the same size.
The postioning holes are located on the receiver extension. Simply swapping a six-position stock on to a four-position receiver extension wouldn't change anything.
As for them being the same size, he didn't state what brand his AR was. Don't ask me why manufacturers do this, but not all receiver extensions are the same diameter.
