WWII Luger & 1911A1 : how to value?

I know very little about these. We inherited them from my wife's dad. A German Luger pistol marked 1040 and her dad's sidearm a 1911A1 US ARMY #1619XXXX. I would like to know how to value these guns. The Colt has a dark gray finish and seems in very good condition. I've heard Luger's are hard to value because there are so many variations. The Luger also seems to be in very good condition with a little wearing of the gray finish in places.

Any information or suggestions on how to value these would be appreciated! Should we sell or hold?

I have photos I can send if anyone wants to contact me.

Many thanks!
Matt

Hello I will edit later with suggestions but for now I would never sell family guns. The only way to value either of these pistols is to look at the completed sales NOT THE ASKING PRICE of pistols sold on this site. These two pistols are both highly collectable[:0]IF[:0]they are all original and have all matching parts . on the luger the barrel and receiver should have up to 4 digits with maybe a letter under the serial on all the small parts it should have the last 2 digits of the serial on the top of the pistol along with the date should be a maker maybe MAUSER inside an oval or letters S/42 . The colt 1911 we would need to see the finish in detailed pictures . Along with that we need to see all markings and with barrel removed all the markings on the barrel. . Just a side note UNCLE SAM did not GIVE pistols away after the war . If you have any PAPERS from the US GOVERNMENT about these pistols "capture" papers keep them it could double the price of the luger. Also any holsters or ammo. Now back to your Question being you are not going to sell them "RIGHT" ? value is a moot point but if you want a value for estate purpose. $1000.00 each "COULD BE " a valid estate value.

Many thanks for that--never occurred to me! Not that I am trusting tree hugger -- just a newbie! I won't make that mistake again.
