And 1KYDSTR is not. Well, he is, sort of. A lot of people don't know the difference and call any top break British revolver a Webley.

The Enfield revolver is not the same as a Webley. The British chose to make the new .38 successor to the .455 at Enfield instead of buying from Webley. But when WW II came, they were hurting for weapons and bought all the Webleys they could get.

.38 S&W is still mgf., check midwayusa.com if your local dealer doesn't have any. (note, this isn't .38 S&W Special)

...Webley/Enfield..S & W .38 SHORT ammo. Check the lock-up! Should have a brass disc on right side of the grip...way it's susposed to be, though w/o knowing it looks as if a "medallion" of some sort maybe fell out...but it didn't [:D]...should have the British "war time" black paint, unless it's been refinished.

...Also nic-named the "Tanker" as this mod had the arsenal bobbed hammer...and had been originally issued w/hammer spur and as a SA to mechanized/armored British units. Seems the troops would snag the hammer on the hatch, and end up shooting themselves so...subsequent mods (as this one) had the hammer bobbed, and parts added to make it a DA...and a GOOD price too...fairly rare vs the ealier mods. Typically $200-$400...[;)]

...To shoot or not to shoot...that, is the question [:D]...up to you. IF that was your only shooter ([8D]) now, may be different...I'd put it up, and admire it now and then and just enjoy the history behind it...and let it appreciate...[;)]

hawk carse...that's why I said it was called a webley and then put "Webley" in quotes...I've been around this stuff a while and tend to think people know what i mean instinctively. reading that much into anything is likely asking the reader a little much, I suppose. On another note I shot a 455 eley yesterday that some gentleman was nice enough to let me take for a spin. These were a really neat series of pistols, and I wish I had kept the few I have had over the years, especially the RIC pistol I sold for $150 some years back.

As others have noted, a really good price...congratulations!!
