Is there any good way to clean a stainless gun? A couple parts are starting to get dark, is that just what stainless does?

What parts are turning dark? SS should not turn dark, it should hold its original color, a sort of silverly color. Ruger does coat their SS rifles with a gray epoxy coating. But that shouldn't change color either.

Towards the front of the side bar on the action on my Mini 14. I guess where it bends back in towards the forend.

Could be vented gas that the Mini uses to cycle the action. Have you tried cleaning it witha bore solvent like Hoppes? Is the front end of the slide show similar discoloring?

If its on the front area of the op-rod, its fouling from firing.

Clean them as best you can with solvent, then use metal polish of some kind on the remainder.

I use a Kleen Bore Lead Away Cloth on me stainless guns. It works very good and lasts a long time.

...Look in the cleaner section of your grocery store for the FINEST plain (no detergent) Scotch Brite Pads you can find; be careful as the texture of these vary and some you can use as a sandpaper, I use rougher textured ones all the time on stocks.

...Flitz, and the finest SBP you can find, then polish the Flitz w/a nice soft cotten rag. FINE SBP's work great on matt SS, be careful on the bright SS though.

......SBP's are great for smoothing up stocks too, between each coat no matter what your using as a finish...[;)]

Mpro7 cleaner, spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes, then spray some more on and a couple scrubs with a toothbrush and vwalla! Assuming its just carbon build up anyway.

You might try and get hold of some carters compensator spray and put a coat of it on after you clean it.

Use one of those lead removal cloths. Works great on the front of SS revolver cylinders.
