Ithaca SxS NID

I came home Sunday from our local club's swap meet and discovered a disassembled Ithaca NID sitting on the bench in the garage. A friend of ours gave it to my wife to give to me, to see if I could do something with it.
The gun had been put away wet and untouched for years. There was a considerable amount of surface rust both on the inside and outside of the barrels. The stock is in very good condition; it is an English styled straight stock with nice checkering and a splinter forearm with a drop point at the tip.
The serial number indicates that it was manufactured in 1926 and I'm assuming that it was a Star model, as the receiver is missing.
With all that said, I worked on cleaning up the barrels and I believe they could be polished and re-blued nicely, as the barrel stampings had little surface rust in the area, and the stock could easily be restored. But, how easy is it to find a receiver?
With nothing invested, does this sound like a successful and worthwhile adventure? Or, do I just have some nice wood and a barrels that can be cleaned-up?
Thanks in advance for your response.
