Hey Guys,
I acquired a Kar88/Commission rifle a few years back and just curious if you know its worth? It's has Erfurt 1891 stamped on the receiver with a S and dot above it. It's in fairly good shape with only a very small dent in the barrel shroud. Any help would be appreciated...

"fairly good shape" is hard to quantify, for any type of valuation? No knowledgeable collector would be willing to spring big bucks, using that as a description.

I.e. is it arsenal original other then being reworked for the Spitzer bullet(s), what is it's present cosmetic condition.

Best thing to do if you want guidance, vis a vis value. Would be to post quality photos.

I had two a couple of years back, one matching, the other with a mismatched nose cap. I sold the mismatched one to a buddy for $500, but I was being generous. Pictures are a must, plus a meaningful description.

forgot to mention that it appears there are 2 small spots inside the barrel(one fore, one aft) where rust/pitting has appeared...other then those spots, the rest is clean.

The good news is that it's a Model 1888 Cavalry Carbine with "regimentals",= 33rd carbine, of the 3rd squadron, of the 6th Bavarian Caviler Regiment. This would make it a big buck item to collectors.

The bad news is that it has been extensively cleaned. Looks like Bubba has had his way with it, using a wire wheel and emory cloth. This would have a definite negative affect on collectors value.

If all matching it should fetch about $695-$900 to my thinking. Nice looking little rifle and nice maker (Erfurt).
