remington 14? 30 Rem

Acquired a bunch of firearms today so I'll be bugging you guys a bit.

I'll start out with what I think might be a model 14 or pre model 14 standard version. 22 inch barrel, pump rifle in 30 Rem, pistol grip stock with a compass in the bottom.

serial number is 32xx with a C above it.

I'm assuming it is an earlier version with the 4 digit serial number. Is there a pre model 14? When do you suppose this ones date of birth was? Was the compass in the bottom of the pistol grip from the factory or was it an add on?

Thanks for your help!

I might have the date figured out. Using this page it looks to be a 14C 1st year 1912.

Still curious about the compass in the stock.

I think the compass is an addition. My first real big game rifle was a 14 in 30 Remington. I liked the cartridge base in the side of the receiver. Dad wouldn't let me run pointed bullets in the magazine. Didn't take me long to move up and takeover a 721 in 270Win.

I did play some with the 25 and 32 Remington.
