on a remington 22 pump with the last date on barrel 1912, and serial number 256xxx. it has an octagon barrel. what would be th date of manufacture,

Starting in 1921 Remington uses a date code- different from the serial number. generally it's on the portside of the barrel and will be two or three letters.

It sounds like a 12 C but that's just a guess. Maybe a date code as listed here but doubtful.
