I have a m14 barrel that has a saw cut up by the gas port hole.
The cut isn't to the rifling .
Can this cut be tig welded and then reharded and still be safe?

Doing that sort of welding on a barrel will likely cause stresses and warpage which will kill accuracy. I would rebarrel and not risk having any problems.

Agree with KAM. Welding a slot is going to warp the barrel right at the weld. Live with it or scrap it.

It could probability be done but it would be way cheaper and likely safer with better results to get a new tube. Out of curiosity how does one get a saw cut in a barrel?

How close is it to the bore?

A damaged high power rifle barrel has a high probability of catastrophic failure, which could result in serious injury or death.

Throw it out; a new Criterion replacement barrel is only around $250.

Or could be hand or arm, then bleed to death...NOT WORTH THE CHANCE!
