Help with gun cleaning....

A friend of mine has a Mossberg 9200 12ga Automatic. Just behind the choke area of the barrel there is some heavy rubber/plastic buildup. I told him I'd try to clean it for him. What is it and how do I get it out?
Half of the lives they tell about me aren't true.

It can only be the plastic shot buffer material and/or part of the plastic wad. Check what kind of shells he's using and tell him to discontinue their use. Hot soapy water and a non metallic scraper may have to be used to remove it.

Sir, Shooters Choice and a brass brush will get most of it. If that does not get it all, use an old brush wrapped with 000 steel wool and use an old jointed rod minus the handle section in an electric drill. That will get the most stubborn plastic fouling out and shine the bore like a mirror.
