Some might depend on what you plan on doing with it. My suggestion on this would be a Ultra dot RED DOT they make one with adjustable dot size . Check out Larry's guns located in Maine. A red dot will be easier to get full field of view and has No parallax.. Just my $.02

if you're going to scope it i would go with either a Burris or Leupold in 2x7

or you can also do as Perry Shooter said which is a very good sugestion

BSA offers a decent scope just for the 17 HMR that is drop compensting for the 17 grain V-Max bullet. I use the same scope with the 6x-18x option and a 40mm objective and love it. BSA also offers it in low power settings. It compensates a 100yd zero out to 300yds and on a fairly calm day it is not far off. The price is not bad on these either, I think I got mine for around $80 and I think Cabelas and Redhead offer the same thing also. Ofcourse I am shooting it on a rifle so even this may be a little overkill, since velocity will be different and I don't remember the dimensions on the smaller scopes, but I Hope I helped a little!

Typical handgun scopes are 2-4x. That would be suitable for target shooting and plinking, but for hunting I would take Nononsense' suggestion for greater field of view.
