BOLT ACTION 45-70

i have come across a bolt action clip fed rifle and it is a 45-70. the bolt doesnt not look like the remington/lee. it is stamped 1875 and has a 3 digit serial number. there are other hallmarks but none that look military from U.S.anyone have any ideas?

Once upon a time a popular thing to do was to take a perfectly good Siamese Mauser and turn it into a 45-70. There was even a small booklet produced by the NRA or somebody explaining how it could be done. Could it be one of these converted Siamese Mausers?

It would be best if you could post photos of the rifle. There is a "sticky" at the top of the forum, that explains how to do this.

i wont see the guy for 2 weeks. i will see if he will let me take a few pictures and post them. i also need to say that the clip protrudes in front of the trigger gaurd.

As I recall there were .45-70 rifles by Gibbs that appeared to be converted Enfields.
