Think I could drop one with it from about max 150 yards using 100 grain cor-lok round...or do you think I should go with my 308 using 165 grain speer soft point at about 2700FPS.

Any opinions...?

My Granpaw always said "You can shoot it with a tank if you want, but it won't matter if you don't put it in the right spot!". Sorry just a little humorous adivce! A .243 is a very nice caliber. very versitile. It is a very good and popular round for whitetails especially in the Mid-west. With good shot placement you can take one out to 300yds no-prob, but you need to be the judge of your capability when you make that decision. And with the bullet selection now days you will have no problem finding a load to hunt anything from ground hogs to whitetail and still not break the bank. Good Hunting!

Like someone else said, if you can't hit it where you need to, a 416 Rigby won't kill a deer! If you can shoot where you aim, a 243 will do a great job on deer out to 300 or so yards.

+3 on the .243. Fast, accurate, low recoil = good combination.

I've killed nine deer with mine before I sold it. All pushing 85 gr. bullets at around 3100-3200 fps. I got the "Oh, there has to be something better out there" syndrome and sold it. I got a .257 RBTS which is about the same except it would easily shoot 120's. Point being is that with proper placement(not even great bullet selection) nine deer pretty much folded. Eight were mulies that went in range from 150 yds to 390 yds and one was a whitetail.

The majority of the whitetail deer I've killed have been with a 243 using both 85 and 105 grain Spitzer bullets. As mentioned previously, a well placed shot is the key to successful kills regardless of what caliber you use.

Depends on were you are hunting. A normal deer is very easy to take with a 243. But if you are shooting deer that are wearing body armor I would suggest going with the 308. If they are normal deer the 243 is more than adequate. Here is a great article about the 243 for your reading pleasure:

243 is a great deer round as long as you can shoot.
