BT-99 or Win 101

I tried looking in the Competition Shooting Forum, but not much on my question. I haven't shot trap in a few years, but I'm getting back into it. My question is, I have a chance to buy a new Browning BT-99 Grey Laminate Nickel 32in. barrel(Shot Show Special)for about $1400.00, or a used Winchester Single Barrel Trap 101 Daimond grade with 34in. ported barrel and win chokes for about $1600.00. The Winchester is 95%. I'll be shooting 100 rounds a week, then slowly working my way up to about 400 rounds. Years ago I hade a BT-99 and found it very reliable. Any suggestions on the better gun? Thanks for any replys, Wayno

I have over 150,000 registered trap targets and I would recommend the BT-99.They are extremely reliable and at least in this neck of the woods your Winchester is a bit overpriced.Just my opinion. Good luck, trap shooting is not only a great sport but the people in it are tops!

If you look at the original post, he said a 101 SINGLE barrel trap 101 Diamond Grade.

If there are going to be doubles involved, the Winchester Select Energy, the Browning Cynergy, XT, or XT Special Trap

Have used a 101 for trap for over 30 years with no problem (O/U), however, given the "parts" availability and watching the BT-99's function for many years, for a single barrel gun I'd go with the BT-99.

Have shot many BT-99's and the new one's seem to have a better rib angle for me then the old one's, not sure what or why they made the change, but I like it.

Both are good (I agree the 101 sounds a little high priced), I'm sure you'll like either.

my bust. im so use to those win being sold as 2 bbls sets i overlooked it.

in that case, buy the browning. they kick less.

and again my question is still valid. how are you going to shoot doubles?
might want to consider a 2bbl gun.[;)]

I just purchased a Winchester Select Energy Sporting Clays in early summer , so far i really like it ,I've been using it for 16yard singles and doubles , i have yet to shoot a 25 with it but them i've never shot a 25 with any thing , i have shot several 24's which for me is really very good . i got mine on sale for $1199 + tax

i could have got the trap model but choose the Sporting clays as a catch all , didn't hav e the money to spring for both and either one is better than using a field grade wingmaster[:D]

No matter what the gun is, in shooting trap you have to use what is most effective and comfortable for you. I have been through a lot of different trap guns, still kind of looking. Lucky, there is a market for trap guns so they retain their value well. It is an individual thing.
