Shotgun Barrel length

I was thinking about getting another hunting shotgun, but the model I want seems to mostly be available with a 24'' or 30'' barrel. I'd rather not get the 30'' it's a semi auto by the way.
So how much difference would there be between the 24'' and a 26" or 28''.

My buddies son shoots a youth model shotgun with 22 inch barrels and does excellent with it. We were wondering just how much muzzle velocity he may be losing compared to a 26 or 28 inch barrel. Thanks. Dave

Looking for some feedback on barrel length for turkey hunting. 24 in. or 28 in. and why?
Appreciate any comments on this topic.

    Thanks!

What is the legal minimum length a shotgun barrel can be....and is legal for an individual to cut it that length or do you have to buy it that length??...also... where does that measurement start?

    Thanks in advance

Does the barrel length of a shotgun make a difference? I have a new Browning 12 ga. gold synthetic hunter (2.75" or 3"). It has a 28" barrel. My main use for this gun will be for turkeys and a few occasional duck hunts. The reason for my question is that I have heard that for turkeys you need a shorter barrel. Does it really matter?

A shotgun reaches max velocity at around 17", so he's not giving up anything in the velocity dept.

Barrel length has more to do with sighting plain length and balance
