Any idea of the percentage of Spring tube vs regular recoil spring M-1 carbines that were made by Winchester. I am under the impression that these are somewhat rare. Thanks

If you get on the CMP fourm and watch the auctions you will see that all of the spring tube receivers are going there and not being sold the the general subscriber to the shooting program. Going to auction with all this type carbine receiver would seem to show that there are fewer of them out there for all manufactures and bringing more money.

It's been 50 years and I've since forgot about them but I do recall the laminated trigger housings as unusual carbine parts go.

I recently bought a Carbine with the spring tube reciever. I dont recall which contractor made it... I'll have to dig it out and see.

I was told by the guy I bought it from that the company that made it made only spring tube guns.

Winchester, Inland, & Quality Hardware all used spring tube receivers early in production. All soon changed to integral spring housing production. It is believed that Inland salvaged some damaged integral spring receivers by converting them to spring tube configuration.

While spring tube receivers were a small % of production, no figures are available.

All carbines with a Winchester receiver bring a premium. Those with the spring tube bring even more. And, Type 2 spring tubes (no lug on the tube) are the scarcest.
