7.62 X54R Ammo -- Where has it all gone??

Looking to pick up some cheap 7.62 X 54R SOFT POINT ammo for the "truck gun." Used to be able to pick it up for $5-$7 from Wolf, S&B, Silver Bear, or other Russian variety. Seems now that you can't seem to get it unless you want to buy it by the case. Guess they're trying to push folks into going with that Wolf "gold" line, which is practically as high as American brands.

Anybody know where I can find what I'm looking for? Already tried Cheaper than Dirt, Sportsmansguide, Midway, Able Ammo, and the other usual suspects.

Thanks.

    Hello DBV:[:)]
I was at a small gun show in Cross City both Saturday and Sunday. It was kind of slow because they had not advertized it correctly.

At any rate there was 7.62X54R all over the place. I bought two packages of the silver tip armor piercing for $15.00 each. Now I have some ammo for my MN that I haul around in the truck. The guy had two sealed cans he kept trying to sell me. I don't need that much ammo.

So I will have to back up 10 yards and punt on your question.

Best of luck on your looking for ammo, there was plenty there, so maybe some of it will trickle down your way.

The Milsurp ammo has dried up, no ammo import permits have been issued for the last 6 months from what I've heard. All the big importers are dragging out stuff from the 40's an 50's and charging 3 times what it was 6mos ago.

The recent Mosin-Nagant craze over the last few years has a few million other guys looking for mil-surp ammo too, and its drying up in a hurry.

    Hello All[:)]

4440rk --- my gosh I was paying $15.00 for 20 rounds. At 9 plus dollars a pop, I would have bought everything he had. $9 plus dollars is dirt cheep for 7.62X54R

Are you sure it wasn't 7.62X39????????

    Best Regards[:D]

At the recent gun show in Kansas City, it seemed like most of this ammo was in box lots, 500-1000. Maybe it was just me, but I had trouble finding .308 ammo too.

unless they're 100 packs you got ripped... about half of the surplus out there has a steel core and the silver tip is a common way to differentiate bullet weights...

Commercial non-corrosive SP seems to run $9-$11 per box around here...
