Dumb Question I Think

harleyriderharleyrider Member Posts: 40 ✭✭

Have a friend that wants to sell me a 9mm auto, he said all it says on the gun is Witness, made in Italy said it holds 19 shells.
I don't have the gun in front of me so that is all the info I have,
Thanks, Tom

The only "dumb question" is the one you should have asked --- but didn't.

That's not all the gun says; have your friend show it to you before you buy it.

It is an EAA (European American Armory) import made by Tanfoglio in Italy. There are a lot of variations in configuration & finish, so information on the box label will be helpful in figuring out exactly what Witness model it is.

The Witness is actually a pretty good gun. They don't have name recognition like the big boys, so they tend to be difficult to sell on the secondary market. Check out the GB "sold" list to get comps.

Thanks for all the help, He is going to bring it to my work place so I can look at it. Don't know if he has the box I doubt it.
    Thanks again,

There is a little problem - like me, you are unfortunately in California and that 19 round magazine will get you in hot water. You are restricted to buying 10 round mags only. You can buy the gun by going through your local FFL dealer - assuming you have an HSC card. But the 19 round mag has to stay with your friend. Assuming he's had it since 2000 it's OK for him to own, not OK for you to buy now.

If you happened to have some EAA Witness hi cap mags bought before the ban, you can keep them. Maybe if you look hard you'll find some hi cap mags that you squirreled away in 2000?

Thanks again for the info, I did not know about the restriction on 19 round mags, I think I will pass on buying the gun, sounds like more of a pain then it's worth.
    Thanks again,

Don't mean to talk you out of the Harley buy - any $$$ spent on fun stuff is worthwhile - but the EAA 10 round mags are easy to find. Most gun stores will have or can order, or you can get directly.
