model 94 questions

An antique dealer I know came up with a model 94.It is a take down 26 inch oct barrel, in 38/55.The wood has normal dings of being a hunting rifle , no cracks or chips.Bluing is about 50%with the barrel looking reblued, serial number is 188xxx.
Now for the interesting part, who made a Ghost ring style sight that was mounted on a triangular piece of metal? The left side front screw of the 94 was replaced with a longer screw used as a pivot for the sight. The lower screw was relaced with a threaded lever. When pushed down, the lever would lock the sight in place.Elevation on the sight was changed by that lever locking against an arced slot cut in the metal. The slot also had reference marks along side of it. There was another screw in the top of the slot to keep it in line. The leg of the triangle closest to the hammer was bent over the reciever with the ring mounted on it.
What would be a realistic value of the rifle? and any info on the sight would be appreciated. Thanks

From your description, the sight might be a Lyman No. 21.

As far as the rifle is concerned, your best bet would be a hands on from a knowledgeble dealer or collector. If it has been reblued, it would have a negative affect on value.

The sight is either a Lyman No. 21 or a No. 38.

I can not say much about the value without seeing clear pictures of the gun.

nyforester, he will probably accept the $1000 I offered him. But, I told him I would get a price range of what it should sell for. From what I am seeing similar rifles are running $1500 and up.We are friends, and I dont want him to think I was screwing him on buying it.
I am real busy now and wont be able to get pictures for awhile.
