cva barrel rusting

I purchased a CVA muzzle loader last year. The problem is RUST. The barrel rusted after the first time I took it out ( yes I wiped it down with hoppes after I used). It seems that ever time I take it out there is rust forming on it again. And again i wipe it down. My question, is their something I can use to stop this from happening. Is this something to contact CVA about? I have over 30 rifles and not had a similar problem with any other one. Thanks,

    Inside or outside?

If inside, I say use Bore Butter or a good oil.

I don't trust Hoppes for preventing rust. I coat everything in either Break-Free CLP or Gibbs oil.

Not a speck of rust with either of them.

Is it rusting inside or outside of the barrel? Did you clean it well after firing? BP residue will tend to rust things up rather quickly. Clean all with hot soap and water, let it dry well then coat inside of barrel with "bore butter". Give outside a good wiping down with a good quailty gun oil.

The rust is spotty on the outside and does appear that there may be some light rusting on the inside around the crown (but the remainder seems clear). I have used bore butter on the inside. Thanks,

    Hello Joes[:)]

When finished with shooting any black powder firearm, take the barrel(s) off and wash them out thoroughly with HOT soapy water. Then run dry patches through the bore until they come out dry. Then swab the barrel(s) with Flitz, it won't hurt the rifling. Then swab the barrel(s) with clean patches to get the Flitz out. Then swab the barrel(s) with your favorite potion - Butche's bore shine, Ed's red, or what ever.

On the outside of the barrel use the paste version on a soft cloth such as old boxer underwear. Rub it with some gusto and when the rust is gone, treat the outside of the barrel(s)with some good protectarant
    such as "Break-Free".

Best Wishes For A SAFE and profitable hunt[:D]

+1 on the Break Free. I have a CVA that is about 10 years old and use Break Free inside and out to keep it rust free. After the soap and hot water wash, I pour boiling water through the barrel and on the outside to rinse, then hang it up to dry itself, followed by the Break Free.
