336A info

I have a 1951 vintage Marlin 336A in 35 Remington. I wanted to take advantage of the ballistic advantage of Hornady's Leverevolution Ammunition. With the rear sight adjusted to it's lowest setting, the rifle shot 9" high @ 100 yds. To remedy this, I purchased a Williams FP-94/36 Firesight set. This included a rear peep assembly and a replacement Hi-viz front sight. This set up, with the peep adjusted to it's lowest height, was still 4" high. Williams did not help me out with this problem. I bought a Tru-Glo front blade 3/16" taller front sight and that brought it right in for elevation. If any one out there has an older Marlin and runs into the same elevation problem, DON'T by the set as I did. If you do, order a taller front blade than what comes with the set. It will save a lot of frustration. As for Williams, I am very disappointed in their customer service.[:(!]

I suppose I was lucky, I have also been using the Hornady Leverevolution ammo in my 1959 vintage 24 inch barrel 336ADL in .35 Remington. At 50 and 100 yards my factory iron sights worked fine with no changes needed. And the scope was needing very little adjustment to zero. I was quite impressed with the accuracy of the rifle with this ammo. I mention only to state that each rifle is an individual. Also recoil reactions can influence vertical impact, and I was wondering if you were resting on sandbags, or how your rifle was supported when you were sighting in.

I used a shooting rest and shot of shooting stix. The results were close to the same. I have a 22" barrel on my 336A. True, every rifle is different. This is just my experience and info for anyone else who may have this problem. By the way, the rifle shot great with factory round nose ammo.[:)]
